Halfwake Privacy Policy
Updated October 1, 2026 · Taoftware LLC
Your local journal
Dream text, titles, feelings, dates, preferences and unfinished drafts are stored on your device. You can write without an account. Halfwake does not send dream content to an AI provider in this version. Patterns are calculated from the entries and feelings you choose.
Your operating system may include app data in backups. Local storage and cloud sync are not a promise of end-to-end encryption or an app passcode lock.
Optional accounts and cloud sync
If you choose to sign in and agree to add this device journal to your account, Supabase provides authentication and stores your written journal, entry metadata and Halfwake profile. Halfwake stores a session on this device, the account that owns its journal, and retry information so edits can sync after an interruption. Audio and sketch file paths are excluded from cloud sync; those files remain device-local.
Halfwake and Diaroo use Taoftware’s shared email/password authentication directory. The same email uses the same password, while Halfwake journal records, profile, consent and app session remain separate from Diaroo. Halfwake does not copy your dream journal into Diaroo. Signing out of Halfwake ends its local session without signing you out of Diaroo.
The cloud retains record revisions and identifier-only deletion markers to reconcile devices. Conflicting edits may create a separate recovered copy. Access rules restrict journal records to their signed-in owner. Taoftware and its infrastructure provider process this information to operate, protect and support the service.
Subscriptions
When available, Apple or Google handles checkout and payment details. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts, product identifiers, entitlement status and technical information needed to verify access. It uses a purchase identifier, associated with your Halfwake account ID when signed in. Dream content is not sent to RevenueCat. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
Restore purchases and Manage subscription are available in the app. Deleting a journal or account does not cancel a store subscription. Subscription records may be retained for transaction, fraud-prevention and applicable legal obligations.
Sharing and exports
Share cards are generated on your device and omit your dream text, name and date by default. You can explicitly add an excerpt and review the image before sharing. JSON and CSV exports can include your complete saved journal. A destination you choose receives the shared content under its own privacy practices. Temporary sharing files are removed from app cache after sharing finishes.
Voice and watch companions
Microphone recording starts only when you choose Record. Voice files stay on this device and are not uploaded by cloud sync. Transcription of a saved phone recording uses on-device speech recognition when supported; it has no cloud fallback. You can review and edit the result. System-keyboard and watch dictation follow the operating system’s own privacy settings.
Watch sharing is optional and off until you enable it. When connected, the phone and watch exchange recent dream excerpts, saved watch notes, appearance preferences and connection identifiers through Apple WatchConnectivity or Google Play services. Pending watch notes stay on the watch until delivered or managed by you. Disconnect controls are available on both devices. Written notes imported into a signed-in phone journal may then sync under your existing cloud-sync choice.
Permissions and diagnostics
Daily reminders are optional and scheduled locally with generic text. Change them in Settings or device settings. There are no ads. Usage analytics are optional and off by default in builds that support them. We do not sell dream content or use it for targeted advertising.
Optional crash reporting is off by default. If you enable Share crash reports in Settings → Data & Privacy, Sentry processes technical error reports to help us diagnose failures. Reports include app/build identifiers, error locations and technical SDK information. Halfwake is configured to remove dream text, recordings, account identifiers, request contents and console breadcrumbs; it does not send screenshots or session replays. Sentry also processes connection information needed to receive reports, such as an IP address. Turn the switch off to stop future reporting. Reports already received are not removed by that switch; contact us with a privacy request. Stores and operating systems may separately collect their own diagnostics.
Optional usage analytics
Share usage analytics is a separate switch in Settings → Data & Privacy. If you enable it, Halfwake sends a limited set of actions to Amplitude: app and main-screen visits, the capture method you open, newly saved dreams, Atlas views, opening a saved dream, watch connection changes, paywall views and Plus purchase outcomes. Reports include event timestamps, app version/build, iOS or Android, and a random identifier generated for this consent period. This identifier lets us understand whether people return and which features work; it is not your account ID, advertising ID or device hardware identifier.
Usage reports do not include dream text or titles, feelings or emotion labels, recordings or transcripts, sketches, people or place names, entry identifiers, screenshots, precise location, email addresses, account identifiers or payment details. Halfwake sends these reports through a restricted native HTTP client, with no analytics SDK, automatic collection or session replay. Amplitude necessarily receives connection information such as the request IP address; the app does not send an IP field or request IP-based location enrichment.
Turning the switch off immediately stops new reports, aborts an outstanding request where possible and clears unsent events and the local analytics identifier. A request already received by Amplitude cannot be recalled. Enabling it again creates a new identifier. Signing out, clearing this device or deleting the Halfwake account also disables usage reporting on this device. Events queued while offline are bounded to 100 and expire after seven days. Reports already received by Amplitude are not deleted by the switch; contact [email protected] with a privacy request. We use these reports to improve Halfwake, not for advertising or cross-app tracking. See Amplitude’s privacy notice.
Access and deletion
You can read, edit, export and delete dreams. For a signed-in account, changes and deletions sync when connected. Account & sync → Delete Halfwake account removes its live cloud journal, profile, consent membership and this device’s copy. Shared sign-in credentials are retained when they are still associated with another Taoftware app; otherwise the unused authentication identity is removed. Diaroo data and access are preserved.
Settings → Data & Privacy → Clear this device removes the local journal, drafts and preferences after confirmation. For a signed-in journal, Halfwake normally syncs pending edits and ends the local session first. If sync cannot finish, an explicit recovery option lets you export and then type REMOVE to discard the unsynced device copy. This does not delete its cloud account. Exported files, shared images, other devices and operating-system backups need separate management. Provider backups, where present, follow their retention lifecycle. See data removal instructions.
This website and support
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes connection information such as IP addresses and request details. The marketing homepage uses Google Fonts; help and legal pages use system fonts. There is no waitlist collection form. The email-confirmation page removes authentication details from the browser address and does not store a sign-in session.
If you email support, we receive your email address, message and attachments to respond. Please leave out passwords, codes and private dreams. Support records may be kept to resolve a request; you may ask us to remove them, subject to applicable retention obligations.
