Privacy policy

Halfwake is provided by Taoftware LLC. This policy explains the phone and watch apps, optional cloud features, and this website. Contact privacy@taoftware.com with privacy questions.

1. Local capture and watch transfer

You can start without an account. Dream text, feelings, tags, dates, connections, and voice recordings are stored on your device. Microphone access is requested for voice recording. Transcription uses supported on-device speech recognition; availability depends on the device and language. Halfwake does not send recordings to a cloud AI transcription or interpretation service.

If you connect a watch, recent dream excerpts and recordings can transfer between your paired phone and watch using their platform connection. This device transfer is distinct from account cloud backup.

2. Optional Plus cloud sync and voice backup

Signing in uses your email address and an account identifier. Plus is required for new journal cloud writes. If you use account sync, dream content and associated journal metadata are stored with your Halfwake account. Cloud voice upload additionally requires your explicit voice-backup setting, which is off by default. Enabling it allows eligible recordings in your journal to be backed up, including recordings received from a watch. Each file is limited to 50 MiB.

Turning voice backup off stops new uploads; it does not delete existing cloud copies. Existing cloud journal data and recordings remain readable and restorable when Plus expires. Delete a dream to remove its associated cloud recording, or use Delete Halfwake account to remove the account’s Halfwake cloud data. Deletion and access to existing backups do not require Plus.

Supabase provides authentication, database, and private file storage. Requests use encrypted HTTPS connections and cloud files are restricted to their owning account. This backup is not end-to-end encrypted: the service infrastructure processes and stores the content needed to provide sync and restoration.

3. Purchases and service providers

Apple or Google handles store purchases and payment details. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts, product identifiers, app/account identifiers, and subscription status to provide purchases, restoration, and Plus access. Halfwake does not receive your full payment-card details. Our cloud service also checks subscription access before accepting new backups. Authentication email delivery uses our email service provider, Resend.

4. Separate optional analytics and diagnostics

Usage analytics and diagnostic reporting are separate opt-ins, off by default. If enabled, Amplitude receives limited app interaction events and technical identifiers; Sentry receives scrubbed crash and diagnostic information. Dream text, recordings, transcripts, and journal content are excluded from these reports. You can change either choice in Data & Privacy. These settings do not control the operational account and purchase requests necessary for features you choose to use.

Halfwake has no advertising or cross-app advertising tracking. We do not sell your dream content or use it to train a cloud AI service. Providers process data to deliver the services described here, and may process it outside your country.

5. Retention, export, and deletion

Local records remain until you delete them or remove the app’s data. Cloud journal content and audio remain until you delete the relevant dreams or your Halfwake account; disabling sync, signing out, or canceling Plus is not a cloud deletion request. Requests that fail while offline need a connection to finish. Account deletion removes cloud audio before completing Halfwake data deletion. It does not remove data belonging to another Taoftware app.

Exported files, copies on other devices, device backups, and files you shared are outside the app’s deletion flow. Manage those copies separately. Store billing records and limited service/security records may be retained where needed to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or protect the service.

6. Website, age, and changes

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Hosting may process ordinary connection data, such as IP address, request details, and user agent, for delivery and security. The site has no advertising or analytics scripts. It saves only your language preference in local storage; clearing browser storage removes that preference.

Halfwake is not intended for children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal data. We update this policy when features or processing change and show the current date here.
